A Brief History

In 1955, the Etex Kennel club voted to change its name and the Longview Kennel Club was created. They applied to the American Kennel Club to be eligible to hold sanctioned dog shows and were approved. They held their first conformation match on October 22, 1955 and the second on June 9, 1956. Their first AKC licensed conformation dog show was held on March 21, 1957. The club has held annual shows since that date with profits being donated to local animal-related charities.

Along with its dog shows the Longview Kennel club also sponsors handling classes and obedience matches.

Some of the winners of the Longview Kennel Club Dog Show through the years have been
Ch. Daiquiris Fannie Farkle MW, a wire-haired dachshund owned by Anita Wray and Danny Mounce of Houston;
Ch. Blackshots Captain Cook, a bulldog owned by Dickensbrae Kennels of Oklahoma City;
Frederick of Rencroft, a poodle owned by Joe Glaser of California;
and Ch. Montmartre, a poodle owned by Mrs. Robert Tranchin of Dallas.
